Since its establishment, the mission of ICCCAS has been to meet the strategic and major scientific and technological needs of national energy strategic security, sustainable development of social economy and national defense security, to coordinate and solve the problems of coal utilization efficiency and ecological environment, and to focus on breaking through the material bottleneck that restricts the development of national strategic emerging industries. Focusing on the clean and efficient utilization of coal and the preparation and application of new carbon materials, it has carried out directional basic research, key core technologies and major system integration innovation. Gradually, from a laboratory with only 64 people, it has developed into a modern research institute with a relatively complete system from basic research to process development to industrialization and has important influence in related fields at home and abroad. By the end of 2021, ICCCAS has 491 employees. Among them, there are 430 scientific and technological personnel, including 77 researchers and senior engineering and technical personnel, 144 associate researchers and senior engineering and technical personnel.
