The 10th Japan-China Symposium on Coal and C1 Chemistry, sponsored and hosted jointly by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS), was held in the International Congress Center in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan from July 26-29, 2009.

More than 110 delegates from China and Japan took part in this symposium. About 100 papers were presented, including 4 plenary lectures, 64 oral representations and 33 posters. The symposium covers coal science, clean coal technology (pyrolysis, gasification, combustion, liquefaction, pollutant control, CO2 capture and storage), C1 chemistry and technologies, natural gas utilization, biomass utilization, coke preparation and carbon materials etc. Prof. Kouichi Miura from Kyoto University and Prof. Jianguo Wang from Institute of Coal Chemistry (ICC) expressed respectively their welcome to participants at the opening ceremony as the co-chairmen on July 27, 2009.

The delegates from ICC gave 1 plenary lecture, 14 oral reports and 10 posters, which showed new progresses in the research field of coal and C1 chemistry. Prof. Yuhan Sun was invited to give a plenary lecture titled “Co-based F-T synthesis: catalyst design, process development and industry demonstration”.

The series of Japan-China Symposium on Coal and C1 Chemistry have been held successfully for 10 times. These symposiums play an active role in promoting the academic exchange and cooperation between China and Japan, which was praised by all participants.
