Professor Peng is one of the pioneers in the fields of catalysis and chromatography in China. In these fields, he and his colleagues had made great contributions and published over 300 research papers. For his great achievements, He received four National Innovation Awards, three CASs Nature Science Awards and three Shanxi Province Awards.

In chromatography research, he established several quick analysis methods, and a general expression for the height of theoretical plate and a model correlating residence time and peak width at half peak height.

In recent years, he has made remarkable progress in heterogeneous catalysis involving super critical fluid.
